I wonder what percentage of the Earth's crust is composed of organic material (plants and animals died, alias) of the ground?

Interesting question. There are several types of organic matter in the crust on the soil or sediment organic and bio-fuels (coal, oil) to lower levels. I assume that the total amount must be small organic matter in the crust, but here is an attempt to put some numbers behind it:

A high content of organic matter in soil is an average of 5%, and the soil layer is only a few feet deep. Let us assume that the level of the ocean sediments and organic matter similar to the deeper soil layers. Therefore, we assume that there is a depth of the soil or sediment, an average of 10 meters. This leads to an average depth of 50 cm of organic matter in soil / sediment layer.

Coal is the most important component of organic fuels. A region rich in coal multiple seams, each seam tens of meters thick, so we assume a total depth of 100 meters. Perhaps 1% of the surface of the earth has such rich resources of coal, and covers the entire surface of the earth, this would lead to an average depth of 1 meter of coal. *

Edit: I guess the thickness of the crust is probably much higher than the model shows the crust of the USGS, it can be, how on average 20-30 km. This simply means that my final estimate is almost at 0.9% for only lime, and the total could be above 1%.
